When Should I Book Newborn Photos? | Pensacola Lifestyle Newborn Photography

As a Lifestyle Newborn Photographer I encourage mamas to reserve a photographer as soon as possible. In this blog, I share more on why and some additional parameters I give mamas.

First, when are you due?

Odds are your baby will not come on their due date, as a mom myself, I know this to be true. My first little one came early for a first time mom at 39 weeks one day, and my second came much later at a whopping 41 weeks 2 days. Here’s the thing, babies can come, healthy as ever, from 36-44 weeks. This makes for a very broad window of time that you could expect to welcome your little one and you certainly can’t lock down a specific date in advance of that.

Many photographers will limit the number of Newborn Sessions that they accept each month in lieu of this. Ensuring you will have a space on their calendar once your little one does make their arrival. Sometimes if a baby comes early or “late” then they may have an extra session one month instead of the previous and vice versa.

Which is why I recommend reserving your photographer as early as you feel comfortable to be sure you have someone who will be available when the time comes.

For my clients, I love to hear from them at least by 20 weeks, this gives us ample time to plan wardrobe and we may already know the gender too! I then “reserve” the full month of their due date. I put the actual due date in my calendar as a personal reminder to check in or go peek their social profiles to see if mama is providing updates.

I let moms know the plan will be to schedule within the first 1-6 weeks of baby’s arrival. This is a personal preference as a mom still fresh from experiencing postpartum life. There is still plenty of sleepy newborn time but gives mom a chance to feel a little more refreshed and ready. The earlier the better of course, but I recognize the need to be flexible during such a profound life change.

In short, reach out no later than 20 weeks (so say hi while you’re waiting to see your ultrasound tech), and expect to have your newborn session locked into a specific date within a few weeks of your baby being born! (Make sure you let your photographer know within a week that your baby is in fact here. That part is kinda important.)

P.S.

If you found this post via google, you’re probably expecting, so CONGRATULATIONS MAMA! 🤍
